Bhopal, Jun 25: In a disturbing and unusual turn of events, a 45-year-old man from Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district has gone missing for over 25 days after publicly seeking help for marriage during a spiritual gathering. The incident, which began with a moment of vulnerability, has now snowballed into a possible case of fraud and abduction.
Indrakumar Tiwari, a part-time teacher and farmer from Padwar (Khitola) village, had attended a spiritual discourse by popular preacher Aniruddhacharya Maharaj in Rivanjha village near Sihora in May. During the programme, Indrakumar stood up and expressed his frustration about not being able to find a bride. Instead of support, he became the subject of humorous remarks, and the moment was captured on video.

The video, widely shared on social media platforms, soon caught the attention of unknown fraudsters. According to his relatives and preliminary police investigations, a group claiming to arrange his marriage contacted Indrakumar shortly after the video went viral. They promised to find him a bride named “Khushi” and convinced him to travel to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, asking him to bring jewellery and cash, allegedly as part of marriage formalities.
On the evening of June 2, Indrakumar left his village and told neighbours he would return by June 6. However, days passed with no word from him. A missing person’s complaint was finally filed at the Majhouli police station on June 8.
What deepens the concern is that Indrakumar lived alone and had no close family members, making the search more difficult. Despite this, villagers have been cooperating with the authorities to trace him.
Additional SP (Rural) Suryakant Sharma confirmed that police are actively investigating the case and have sent a team to trace Indrakumar’s whereabouts. “We are coordinating with the Uttar Pradesh police and following all possible leads,” he said.
As the days pass, hope for Indrakumar’s safe return continues to dwindle, but the search remains relentless. His disappearance stands as a cautionary tale of how emotional vulnerability in the digital age can sometimes take a tragic turn.
