Port Blair, Jun 25: A mild earthquake measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale struck the Andaman Sea in the early hours of Wednesday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) confirmed.
According to the NCS, the tremor was recorded at 01:43:50 IST at a depth of 20 km beneath the seabed. The epicentre of the quake was located at 9.46°N latitude and 94.07°E longitude.

In an update shared on X, the agency stated: “EQ of M: 4.2, On: 25/06/2025 01:43:50 IST, Lat: 9.46 N, long: 94.07 E, Depth: 20 Km, Location: Andaman Sea.”
Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties, injuries, or damage to infrastructure as a result of the tremor. Authorities continue to monitor the situation, though normalcy prevails across the islands.
The Andaman and Nicobar region, located in a seismically active zone, frequently experiences low to moderate intensity earthquakes. Wednesday’s event serves as a reminder of the region's geological volatility.
