Mangaluru, Jun 24: In a tragic incident, a college student died by suicide at a private hostel in Talapady on Monday, June 23.

The deceased has been identified as Shreya (19), a second-year BA student at a private college in Bendorewell. She hailed from the Narl area in Talapady and was residing in the girls’ hostel run by a private institution.

According to police sources, Shreya ended her life by hanging herself using a dupatta from the window grill of her hostel room. The incident came to light when hostel staff checked her room after noticing that she had not stepped out for long.

It is reported that the girl had been under academic pressure and had failed in one of her subjects. A death note recovered from the scene is said to mention this as a reason behind her extreme step.

Police have registered a case and are investigating further. The body was sent for post-mortem examination.
