Indore, Jun 23: The net continues to close in on the chilling Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, with two more arrests made from Madhya Pradesh for allegedly aiding prime accused Sonam Raghuvanshi after the brutal killing of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. The total number of arrests in the case has now reached seven.

On Saturday evening, police apprehended Silome James, a property dealer from Indore, at Bhonrasa toll gate in Dewas while he was trying to flee to Bhopal. According to East Khasi Hills SP Vivek Syiem, James had leased out a flat in Heera Bagh Colony, Indore, where Sonam stayed and hid jewellery and other items taken after the murder.

In a second arrest, Balvir Ahirwar, a carpenter and watchman, was detained from his native village in Ashok Nagar district in the early hours of Sunday. He had reportedly been working at the flat where Sonam took shelter post-crime.

“Shillong police came to Shadora and took Balvir Ahirwar to Indore for questioning,” said Ashoknagar SP Vineet Kumar Jain.

Both suspects were presented before an Indore court and have been remanded to seven days’ transit custody of Meghalaya Police.

According to police sources, James helped Sonam dispose of a box containing jewellery, a laptop, and possibly a weapon linked to her alleged lover and co-accused Raj Kushwaha. The SIT said the box was later destroyed by burning, but no trace of the items has been recovered.

James had rented the Indore flat to another accused, Vishal Chauhan, for Rs 17,000 a month, police confirmed earlier.

The murder took place on May 23 near the picturesque Weisawdong Falls in Sohra during what was meant to be a honeymoon trip. Raja Raghuvanshi was hacked to death, and his mutilated body was discovered on June 2.

Sonam and her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha are believed to have orchestrated the murder. They, along with three other accused, are already in judicial custody in Meghalaya.
