Mumbai, Jun 22: Bollywood star Ajay Devgn has officially announced the release of his upcoming film Son of Sardaar 2, now titled The Return of the Sardaar. The film is set to hit theatres on July 25, and Devgn revealed the news on Thursday via Instagram, sharing a poster that shows him donning a turban. “The Return of the Sardaar #SOS2 in cinemas near you on 25th July,” he captioned the post, tagging co-star Mrunal Thakur and production houses Jio Studios, Devgn Films, and T-Series.
A spiritual sequel to the 2012 hit Son of Sardaar, the new film blends action, comedy, and high-energy drama, with Mrunal Thakur taking over the female lead this time. The original featured Sonakshi Sinha and saw Devgn and Sanjay Dutt in memorable roles as Jassi and Billu.
Fans got a teaser of the film earlier when Mrunal Thakur shared a behind-the-scenes clapboard shot on Instagram, captioned, “SCENE 49 SHOT 5 TAKE 1 ACTION!”
Sanjay Dutt will reprise his role as Don in the sequel, while Sanjay Mishra joins the cast in a role originally intended for Vijay Raaz, taking over from Ravi Kishan’s character from the first film. The film is being directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, nearly 12 years after the original’s release.
The Return of the Sardaar will go head-to-head at the box office with Param Sundari, a romantic drama starring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor.
Produced by Maddock Films and directed by Tushar Jalota, Param Sundari also releases on July 25, setting the stage for a major cinematic showdown.
