International Yoga Day celebration held at SMVITM

Udupi, Jun 21: The NSS Unit, NCC, and the department of Physical Education of Shri Madhwa Vadiraja Institute of Technology and Management (SMVITM), Bantakal, jointly organised a meaningful celebration of International Yoga Day on June 21.

Aligning with this year’s global theme, ‘Yoga for One Earth, One Health,’ the event aimed to raise awareness about the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of yoga, emphasising its role in achieving harmony between individuals and nature.

The session featured two eminent resource persons.

Dr Prasanna Hegde, counselling psychologist and yoga & psychotherapy specialist from Karkala, addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of incorporating yoga into daily life. He spoke extensively on how yoga enhances both physical and mental health and helps in managing emotions effectively. He also highlighted the crucial role of meditation in promoting inner peace and emotional balance.

K Sadashiva Rao, retired principal of Poorna Prajna College, Udupi, conducted a live demonstration of various asanas and pranayama techniques. He focused on their effectiveness in managing stress and promoting overall well-being.

Principal Dr Thirumaleshwara Bhat, in his address, stressed the significance of observing International Yoga Day and encouraged the younger generation to adopt yoga as a daily practice for a healthier lifestyle.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and staff, reinforcing the institute’s commitment to promoting a healthy and balanced lifestyle through traditional practices like yoga.
