Karachi, Jun 20: Renowned Pakistani television actress Ayesha Khan, celebrated for her iconic roles in the golden era of PTV dramas, was found dead at her apartment in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 7, Karachi, on Wednesday. She was 76.
Local reports indicate her body was discovered nearly a week after her passing. Concerned neighbours alerted authorities after noticing a foul smell emanating from the residence. Police found the body in a decomposed state, confirming that the actress had died several days earlier.
Khan had been living alone for several years and was reportedly struggling with health issues. Her remains were sent to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem, and later transferred to the Edhi Foundation mortuary in Sohrab Goth.
An investigation is underway, with officials questioning neighbours and reaching out to any surviving family. Police have not reported any signs of foul play as of now.
Born on November 22, 1948, Ayesha Khan was a pioneer in Pakistani television, known for her powerful performances in classics such as Akhri Chattan, Tipu Sultan: The Tiger Lord, Dehleez, Daraarein, Bol Meri Machli, and Ek Aur Aasman. She also featured in films like Muskaan, Fatima, and the Indian movie Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman.
She was the elder sister of the late actress Khalida Riyasat, another legendary name in the industry. While both sisters were pillars of early Pakistani television, Ayesha gradually faded from the public eye in her later years.
The entertainment fraternity has expressed deep sorrow over her lonely passing. Fans and celebrities took to social media to pay heartfelt tributes, mourning the loss of a veteran who once lit up the screen.
Her death has also reignited discussions around the neglect of ageing artists, especially those living in isolation and without adequate support from the very industry they once helped build.
