Rampur, Jun 20: In a bizarre and shocking turn of events, a man in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh reportedly married his minor son’s bride-to-be, triggering outrage within the family and raising eyebrows across the community.
The man, identified as Shakeel, was initially arranging a marriage for his 15-year-old son, but ended up tying the knot with the young woman himself after reportedly falling in love with her during repeated visits to her house.

According to Shabana, Shakeel’s wife and the mother of his six children, her suspicions began when she noticed her husband spending long hours video-calling the young woman. “He used to talk to her all day. I caught them together twice,” she alleged in her statement to the media.
Despite her warnings and objections, Shakeel allegedly grew more aggressive. “He beat me and my son when we confronted him,” said Shabana. She further claimed that Shakeel not only left the family home but also took away ?2 lakh in cash and 17 grams of gold before marrying the woman.
The couple's minor son, for whom the initial match had been fixed, refused to go through with the wedding upon discovering the nature of his father’s relationship with his fiancée. He alleged that his grandparents were complicit and even helped Shakeel solemnize the marriage.
In a similarly astonishing incident from Aligarh earlier this year, a woman named Anita allegedly eloped with her daughter Shivani’s would-be groom, Rahul, days before the scheduled wedding. Shivani claimed that her mother also took jewellery worth over ?5 lakh and cash exceeding Rs 3.5 lakh from their home.
Such incidents have raised concerns over moral degradation and legal implications, especially with minors and close familial ties involved. Local police have yet to confirm whether any formal complaint has been registered in the Rampur case, though calls for action from women’s groups and child rights activists are beginning to emerge.
Authorities are expected to initiate inquiries into both cases, especially regarding the age of the girl involved and the alleged misuse of family resources.
