BJP slams Congress for echoing Pakistan's line on Asim Munir's US visit

New Delhi, Jun 19: The BJP has launched a sharp attack on the Congress, accusing it of amplifying Pakistani propaganda after the Opposition party questioned the Modi government over US President Donald Trump hosting Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir for lunch.

The Congress had described the meeting as a “huge blow” to Indian diplomacy. Party leader Udit Raj commented that Pakistan’s global image was improving post-‘Operation Sindoor’ and questioned why asking tough questions about India’s diplomatic approach was being branded anti-national. He added that no country had come forward to support India, suggesting introspection was necessary.

Responding to these remarks, BJP leader Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said the Congress was now echoing narratives used by Pakistan. “What has happened to the Congress party? Every question they raise mirrors Pakistan’s line. The party has become a carbon copy of Pakistan’s talking points. This is extremely unfortunate for a party with such a legacy,” he told reporters.

Hussain also spoke about the recent evacuation of 110 Indian students from Iran, marking the first major success under ‘Operation Sindhu’. He said the Modi government has always responded swiftly to international crises involving Indian citizens, and more evacuees were expected soon. According to him, this effort reflects the government's ongoing commitment to the safety of Indians abroad.

Speaking about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit to Siwan, Bihar on June 20, Hussain said the PM would inaugurate several new development schemes and that local enthusiasm was high. He highlighted how each of the PM’s visits to the state has brought major infrastructure and welfare initiatives, reinforcing the strength of Bihar’s “double-engine” government.

Reacting to Samajwadi Party MP S.T. Hasan’s comment that there was no justification for giving time off on Yoga Day when Muslims were not given breaks for Namaaz, Hussain said Hasan had misunderstood the purpose of yoga. “Yoga is about physical and mental well-being. It should not be linked to religion. Many Islamic nations embrace yoga. If Hasan practiced yoga, perhaps his statements would be healthier too,” he said.
