New Delhi, Jun 19: In a significant crackdown on illegal immigration, the Delhi Police have detained 17 Bangladeshi nationals, including several women and children, for residing unlawfully in the national capital.
The operation was conducted by a dedicated team from Vasant Kunj South Police Station under the South-West District, and deportation proceedings have been initiated in coordination with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO).
Among those detained was a pregnant woman who went into labour during the process and gave birth to a baby boy at Safdarjung Hospital. The newborn and the others have since been moved to a detention centre at PP Badola, PS Mahindra Park, pending deportation.

Police said the group had entered India through unguarded jungle routes and by train, bypassing immigration checks. Most of the detainees hail from Tellipara village in Bangladesh’s Kurigram district, with eight minors among them—the youngest just a few days old.
The drive is part of a focused campaign launched by the South-West District Police to track and remove illegal foreign nationals from the city. The crackdown was led by Inspector Arvind Pratap Singh, SHO of Vasant Kunj South, under the overall supervision of ACP Garima Tiwari. The team executed door-to-door verifications, guided by intelligence inputs.
Team members included Inspector Ratan Singh, SI Upender Singh, W/PSI Preeti, ASI Padam, ASI Raj Kumar, HC Nemi Chand, HC Pawan, HC Ravit, HC Anil, Ct. Anup, Ct. Dharmender, and W/Ct. Sonu.
Officials confirmed that all legal formalities were followed before transferring the individuals to the detention centre. The FRRO is now handling the repatriation process to Bangladesh.
This operation is part of a broader initiative by Delhi Police to address the growing presence of unauthorised foreign nationals, especially from neighbouring countries, in the city.
