Barwani, Jun 19: On the occasion of World Sickle Cell Day (June 20), the Madhya Pradesh government will host a state-level programme under the National Sickle Cell Eradication Mission-2047 at Gram Panchayat Taloon in Barwani district. President Droupadi Murmu will be the chief guest at the mega event.
The programme will also see the presence of Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and Deputy CM Rajendra Shukla. Several key initiatives, including a genetic counselling video and guidelines for pregnant women affected by sickle cell disease, will be launched.

The event will felicitate panchayats that have achieved 100% screening, and introduce the Sickle Cell Mitra initiative in collaboration with NCC Directorates of MP and Chhattisgarh, aimed at engaging tribal youth in awareness efforts.
Special counselling and screening camps will be conducted across 33 affected districts. The initiative, part of the mission launched by PM Narendra Modi in 2023, aims to screen 7 crore individuals in the 0–40 age group in tribal areas by 2047.
