New Delhi, Jun 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday embarked on a five-day visit to Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia, marking his first international tour since India’s launch of Operation Sindoor targeting Pakistan-based terrorists and military assets on May 7.

In a statement issued ahead of his departure from the national capital, PM Modi said the visit would provide an opportunity to thank India’s international partners for their support in the global fight against terrorism. He also emphasised the importance of discussing pressing issues concerning the Global South.

The Prime Minister’s first stop will be in Cyprus on June 15 and 16, where he will meet President Nikos Christodoulides. Describing Cyprus as a close friend and valued partner in the Mediterranean and the European Union, PM Modi said the visit aims to strengthen historical ties and enhance cooperation in trade, investment, technology, and security, along with promoting cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

From Cyprus, PM Modi will head to Kananaskis in Canada to attend the G7 Summit, where India has been invited as a partner country. The summit is expected to serve as a platform for global discussions on critical challenges including climate change, economic development, and counter-terrorism efforts. PM Modi said he looked forward to engaging with world leaders and sharing India’s perspective on issues affecting emerging economies.

On June 18, PM Modi will arrive in Croatia, becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit the country. He highlighted the deep-rooted cultural ties shared by both nations and expressed hope that the visit would pave the way for new avenues of bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The visit underscores India’s commitment to global partnerships and its proactive role in addressing international security and development concerns.
