Rourkela, Jun 14: In a tragic incident that highlights the ongoing battle against left-wing extremism, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) official was martyred in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast during a combing operation in Odisha’s Sundergarh district on Saturday morning.
The blast occurred around 6:00 am near K Balang village in Rourkela, where a joint team of the CRPF and the Special Operations Group (SOG) of Odisha Police was engaged in a search operation as part of an intensified anti-Naxal drive.
Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Satyaban Kumar Singh (34), belonging to the 134th Battalion of CRPF, sustained critical injuries on his left leg due to the powerful explosion. He was immediately airlifted and shifted to a hospital in Rourkela for urgent medical attention. However, despite best efforts by the doctors, he succumbed to his injuries.

Hailing from Kushinagar district in Uttar Pradesh, ASI Singh was known for his dedication and discipline in service. His untimely demise has left his comrades and superiors deeply shocked and saddened.
Security forces have since intensified the search operation in the region, and a high alert has been sounded in the nearby areas. Top officials have paid tribute to the martyr, vowing that such cowardly acts will not deter the morale of the forces.
Further investigation is underway to identify the perpetrators and neutralize the remaining Naxal elements operating in the region.
