New Delhi, Jun 12: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday spotlighted the sweeping digital transformation India has undergone over the past 11 years under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it a cornerstone of a new era defined by technological empowerment and economic resurgence.
Marking the occasion with a detailed post on X, Shah credited the Modi government’s vision for “democratising technology” and driving inclusive development across sectors—from rural governance to global commerce.
“In these #11YearsOfDigitalIndia, the Modi government has leveraged technology to enhance ease of living and turbocharge economic growth. Every segment—healthcare, education, trade, commerce—has been reimagined through digital innovation,” Shah wrote.

Accompanying the post was a digital infographic titled ‘Big Picture – India’s Techade’, highlighting some of the landmark achievements during the government’s push for a digitally empowered nation.
Key Highlights Shared by Amit Shah:
• Rural Connectivity: 2.18 lakh gram panchayats have been connected via optical fibre, bringing internet access to India's remotest corners.
• Healthcare Access: Over 37 crore patients benefited from digital consultations through the eSanjeevani platform, transforming telemedicine outreach.
• Digital Documentation: More than 52 crore citizens registered on DigiLocker, simplifying access to official documents.
• Unified Access: 8 crore users accessed public services through the UMANG app, streamlining government service delivery.
• Internet Boom: Internet usage jumped by 285%, with mobile subscribers soaring to 116 crore.
• Affordable Data: The average cost of 1 GB of data plummeted from ?308 to just Rs 9.34, making India one of the cheapest data markets globally.
Economic and Strategic Milestones:
• Digital Payments: A staggering 49% of all global real-time digital transactions are now conducted in India.
• Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT): Over Rs 44 lakh crore has been directly transferred to the poor and underprivileged through various schemes.
• GeM Portal Expansion: Transactions worth over ?13 lakh crore have been facilitated via the Government e-Marketplace as of March 2025.
• Telecom Infrastructure: India laid 6.93 lakh km of optical fibre cable under the ambitious BharatNet project.
• Space Achievements: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched 393 foreign satellites, reinforcing India’s position as a trusted space partner.
Shah emphasized that this digital revolution is not just about faster networks or more apps—it reflects a deeper transformation of governance, inclusion, and innovation. “From a consumer of technology, Bharat has become a creator and exporter of tech-driven solutions,” he said.
As India charts the next phase of its digital journey, the government’s achievements under "India’s Techade" stand as a blueprint for tech-led development at global scale.
