Little star in the making: When young Alia Bhatt shone bright in 'Tamanna'

Mumbai, Jun 10: Bollywood’s beloved actress Alia Bhatt, known today for her powerful performances and immense versatility, once captured hearts as a little girl on the sets of the 1997 film Tamanna. As part of a nostalgic Throwback Tuesday moment, rare behind-the-scenes memories of the film resurfaced, reminding fans of Alia’s adorable early appearance alongside some of cinema’s finest.

The heartwarming memory came alive when, back in 2018, veteran actress Soni Razdan and filmmaker Pooja Bhatt took to social media to share a priceless photograph from the sets of Tamanna. A tiny Alia, dressed gracefully in a lehenga, is seen smiling radiantly with senior actor Paresh Rawal. “Oh my oh my where did the years fly... Alia in Tamanna, not a very long time ago,” Soni Razdan captioned the image, filled with emotion and nostalgia.

The film, which remains a deeply personal project for the Bhatt family, was produced by Pooja Bhatt at the young age of 24. But what made it even more special was the involvement of all three Bhatt sisters. While Pooja played the lead role, a young Alia portrayed the younger version of her character, and Shaheen Bhatt featured as Ashutosh Rana’s daughter—bringing her own toys to the set to complete the scene’s realism.

“My father cast all three of his daughters in the same film... a fact that has been forgotten with time,” recalled Pooja Bhatt, referring to filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, who directed the film. Tamanna, though not a box-office hit, stood tall with its powerful social message against female infanticide and won critical acclaim, including a National Award—marking a significant milestone in Pooja’s career.

Alia Bhatt too acknowledged the sentimental moment by reposting the same image with the caption, “Clearly throwing back this Thursday! Thanks Pooj for the trip down memory lane.”
Meanwhile, Alia’s most recent release Jigra opened to mixed reviews, yet fans are eagerly looking forward to her next major project—Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Love and War, where she will share screen space with Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.

From child artist in Tamanna to a leading force in Indian cinema, Alia Bhatt’s journey is nothing short of cinematic itself—a story of talent, legacy, and timeless charm.
