New Delhi, Jun 8: Renowned spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar has thrown his weight behind the government’s ambitious ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, calling it a “much-needed reform” that would catapult the country onto a faster growth trajectory.
In an exclusive conversation, the Art of Living founder lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government for completing eleven years in power and weighed in on a range of national issues.
Making a strong pitch for synchronised elections, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar argued that holding multiple elections year-round drains both resources and administrative bandwidth.

“Officials and government staff are perpetually caught up in elections—whether at the panchayat, taluka, municipal, state, or national levels—leaving little room for real governance. Even politicians are always on the campaign trail,” he said.
He underscored the need to break this cycle and allow the government to focus on development. “To free the country from this endless election mode and to fast-track growth, ‘One Nation, One Election’ is essential,” he added.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also praised the Modi government’s focus on border and rural infrastructure, particularly in the remote northeastern states such as Arunachal Pradesh.
“The government’s efforts to bring roads and electricity to these areas are commendable,” he said, adding that his Foundation has also adopted several villages in collaboration with government initiatives.
Turning to the Prime Minister’s popular ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme, the spiritual leader said it has created a direct bridge between citizens and the country’s highest office.
“It highlights government schemes and allows people from all walks of life to express themselves. It’s an effective way to connect with the nation and build trust,” he noted.
Sri Sri Ravi Shankar concluded that such initiatives empower citizens and inspire the country to aim higher on the global stage.
