New Delhi, Jun 8: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) deputy governor T Rabi Sankar has been appointed as a part-time member of the 16th finance commission, the Finance Ministry announced on Saturday.
Sankar’s appointment comes in place of Ajay Narayan Jha, who stepped down from the commission due to personal reasons. He will serve on the panel from the date he assumes charge until the commission submits its report or until October 31, whichever comes earlier.

The 16th finance commission, constituted on December 31, 2023, has been tasked with recommending the distribution of tax revenues between the Centre and states for a five-year period starting April 1, 2026.
