Udupi, Jun 7: A delegation from the Bahrain Non-Resident Kannadigas Forum, led by its president Raj Kumar, met with Udupi deputy commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari, IAS, on Saturday, June 7 to discuss the various challenges faced by the Kannada-speaking diaspora in Bahrain. The delegation also submitted a memorandum detailing these concerns.
The key issues raised during the meeting included:
• Obstacles faced by non-resident Indian students in pursuing higher education,
• Request for government assistance for Kannadigas who have lost their jobs in Bahrain,
• Difficulties encountered by Bahrain residents at the customs section of Mangaluru International Airport,
• Exorbitant airfare rates during festivals and holiday seasons.




The honourable deputy commissioner engaged in an in-depth discussion with the delegation for about 30 minutes and assured them of all possible support and cooperation.
The delegation included Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, chairman of Udupi District guarantee implementation committee, and Bahrain-based Kannadigas Austin Santosh, Rajesh B Shetty, Sanjeev Shetty, and Uday Kumar Shetty.
