Mumbai, Jun 7: Acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur took to Instagram on Saturday to share a deeply philosophical reflection on existence, wrapped in poetic musings about the universe and the self.

Posting a serene image of sunlight streaming through a window, Kapur wrote, “If you’re looking for me, I am there, in the rising sun of the dawn. Look for me in the ray of light that enters your room, and in there you will find me in a speck of dust, floating amongst billions of others... look further into that speck of dust for within it exists the same universe that you see around yourself.”

He continued, “And within that whole universe you will find yourself looking for me in yet another speck of dust, within which I may exist in yet another universe... connecting all these universes is my love for you.”

The director, known for his visionary storytelling, also surprised fans recently by revealing how the child within him shaped the making of the iconic film Mr India—an aspirational and timeless classic.

Sharing a black-and-white behind-the-scenes photo from the film’s set, tinted with a splash of magenta, Kapur showed actor Anil Kapoor posing joyfully with the child actors. In his caption, he explained how he nurtured and preserved the childlike wonder within, often seeking the “feedback” of that inner child to ensure the film resonated with younger audiences.

Mr. India, directed by Kapur off a script by the legendary screenwriting duo Salim-Javed in their final collaboration, tells the story of Arun, a street violinist who rents an old house to shelter orphans. Using an invisibility device, Arun battles the evil mastermind Mogambo, whose chilling catchphrases—“Mogambo khush hua” and “Hail Mogambo!”—became ingrained in Indian pop culture.

Shekhar Kapur’s reflections remind fans of the magic behind the scenes and the heartfelt philosophy that continues to inspire his work.
