Man arrested for allegedly raping 5-year-old at Jharkhand wedding

Ranchi, Jun 7: In a distressing incident reported from Chanho, approximately 50 km from Ranchi in Jharkhand, a 25-year-old man has been accused of raping a five-year-old girl during a marriage reception on Friday evening. According to information provided by the police, the accused was allegedly inebriated at the time of the crime.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the man lured the young girl with a mango before taking her to a nearby garden, where the alleged assault took place. Following the incident, local villagers confronted the accused and physically assaulted him. He was later rescued by the police and taken into custody.

Chanho Police Station in-charge, Chandan Kumar Gupta, confirmed that a medical examination of the victim was conducted the same night. The accused has been arrested and is set to be presented before the court of the judicial magistrate on Saturday. An FIR has been registered, and charges have been filed against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Gupta further stated that both the victim and the accused are residents of the same village. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the urgent need for increased safety measures for children.
