Deepika Padukone may exit 'Kalki 2' after 'Spirit'; Triptii Dimri steps in as new favourite

Mumbai, Jun 6: Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone is reportedly on the verge of stepping away from 'Kalki 2,' the sequel to the much-anticipated sci-fi epic starring Prabhas, just days after her confirmed exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s action drama 'Spirit'. The news has triggered a wave of speculation and debate across film circles and fan communities.

According to reports circulating on Instagram through Bollywood.mobi, Deepika’s decision stems from her request for shorter work hours post motherhood. The demand, reportedly made to balance her personal life and career, has led to "friction on sets," prompting producers of Kalki 2 to reconsider her role in the mega project. While there’s no official confirmation from the film’s team, industry insiders suggest that her role could be trimmed — or possibly eliminated.

The development mirrors her recent departure from 'Spirit,' where similar concerns were raised. As per News18, Deepika’s terms reportedly included an 8-hour workday, a high remuneration, and a share in profits — conditions that didn’t sit well with director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The fallout led to her being dropped from the project, with the filmmaker publicly airing his frustration.

In a viral tweet, Vanga lashed out without naming the actress:

“When I narrate a story to an actor, I place 100% faith. There is an unsaid NDA between us. But by doing this, you’ve ‘DISCLOSED’ the person that you are… Putting down a younger actor and ousting my story? Is this what your feminism stands for?... You didn’t get it. You won’t get it. You will never get it.”

With Deepika out of Spirit, Triptii Dimri, who rose to prominence with her role in Animal, has been confirmed as the new female lead. The actress took to Instagram to share her gratitude, captioning a post of the film’s title poster with:

“Still sinking in… So grateful to be trusted with this journey. Thank you, @sandeepreddy.vanga… Honored to be a part of your vision.”

Fans are now left wondering if Triptii, who has impressed audiences and filmmakers alike, might step into Deepika's shoes in 'Kalki 2' as well — a move that could realign the dynamics of both major projects.

As of now, Deepika Padukone has not issued any public statement regarding either film. With her first child due soon, it remains to be seen how the star balances her evolving priorities with her career in an industry that seldom pauses.
