Mumbai, Jun 5: In a major development for Bollywood fans, reports have emerged suggesting that director Ayan Mukerji has temporarily shelved the sequel to Brahmastra to direct the next installment of the iconic action franchise, Dhoom 4.
As per a report by Bollywood Hungama, the Brahmastra trilogy has encountered funding challenges, prompting Mukerji to shift gears towards the high-octane YRF production, which is expected to reboot the Dhoom universe with an all-new cast and narrative.

Fueling excitement further is the buzz that Ranbir Kapoor, fresh off his success in Animal, may headline the cast of Dhoom 4, following in the footsteps of action giants John Abraham, Hrithik Roshan, and Aamir Khan who previously starred in the franchise. Casting for other pivotal roles, including the female lead, is currently underway, sources said.
Production is expected to kick off by April 2026, with a tentative theatrical release in 2027.
Fans of the fantasy epic Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, released in 2022, may have to wait longer for its sequel, Brahmastra Part Two: Dev. According to reports, the much-awaited follow-up will now go on floors in 2027, with both the second and third parts likely to be filmed back-to-back, adopting a production strategy similar to Nitesh Tiwari's two-part Ramayana.
The delay is attributed to creative differences and budgetary constraints, although official confirmation from Dharma Productions or Ayan Mukerji is still awaited.
Meanwhile, Ranbir Kapoor is keeping busy with a series of ambitious projects. He is currently shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal. He is also lined up for Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana Part 2 and the action-packed sequel Animal Park.
If confirmed, Dhoom 4 will mark the reunion of Ranbir Kapoor and Ayan Mukerji after their previous collaborations on Wake Up Sid, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Brahmastra.
Fans now eagerly await an official announcement as Bollywood braces for yet another high-octane spectacle from the YRF action universe.
