Mumbai, May 24: In a moment of unparalleled achievement for India’s insurance sector, the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has officially entered the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ for issuing the highest number of life insurance policies in 24 hours. A staggering 5,88,107 policies were sold across the nation on January 20, 2025 — a landmark effort driven by LIC’s massive agent network.
This extraordinary feat was accomplished under a special nationwide campaign dubbed “Mad Million Day”, initiated by LIC’s CEO and Managing Director Siddhartha Mohanty, who urged each of the 4.5 lakh agents to issue at least one policy on the designated day. The appeal was met with overwhelming enthusiasm as 4,52,839 agents rose to the challenge, scripting a new global record in the process.

Expressing his delight, Siddhartha Mohanty said, “We thank our esteemed customers, agents, and employees for making ‘Mad Million Day’ truly historic. Their incredible performance has now been recognized globally with a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title.”
Mohanty further emphasized that the achievement reinforces LIC’s core mission of extending financial security to millions of Indian families. He lauded the dedication and efficiency of the agent network, describing it as “the backbone of LIC’s success and the true face of its outreach.”
The GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ recognition not only brings pride to LIC but also sets a global benchmark for life insurance policy issuance, reflecting the unmatched scale, commitment, and organizational capability of India’s premier life insurer.
With this milestone, LIC has reaffirmed its position not just as a market leader in India, but as a global giant in the life insurance industry.
