New Delhi, May 22: The much-awaited biopic of Bharat Ratna Dr APJ Abdul Kalam was officially launched with a powerful first-look poster, unveiled at the prestigious 78th Cannes Film Festival. Tamil superstar Dhanush will portray the iconic former President, lovingly known as the Missile Man of India.

Taking to social media on Wednesday, May 21, Dhanush shared the first glimpse of the film titled Kalam, sending fans into a celebratory frenzy.

“I feel truly blessed and deeply humbled to be portraying the life of such an inspirational and magnanimous leader — our very own Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, sir,” Dhanush wrote on Instagram.

The poster, rich in symbolism, features silhouettes of two figures with a missile soaring high into the sky, encapsulating Kalam’s journey from a small coastal town to the forefront of India’s space and defence programs.

Directed by Om Raut, who is known for helming epic sagas, Kalam promises to present the untold journey of a man who transcended science, politics, and borders. The screenplay is penned by Saiwyn Quadras, while the film is being jointly produced by Abhishek Agarwal Arts and T-Series.

“In an era starved of true statesmen, Kalam stood above politics and pettiness,” director Om Raut remarked.

“This is the most important experience of my life. His story is inspirational to youth not just in India but across the Global South.”

Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, India’s 11th President, remains a revered figure even years after his passing. Born into humble beginnings in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, he rose to become one of the nation’s top scientists and a global symbol of integrity, education, and innovation.

Known for his simplicity and vision, he was affectionately referred to as the People’s President.

“We are privileged to tell this story,” said Abhishek Agarwal, producer of the film.

“Each of us is giving our best to bring to life the journey of our true Bharat Ratna, Kalam ji. This project will be a grand spectacle on a global scale.”

While the official release date of Kalam is yet to be announced, expectations are already soaring high. Fans of Dhanush and admirers of Dr Kalam alike await what could become one of Indian cinema’s most defining biopics.

Stay tuned for further updates on this cinematic tribute to a man who inspired generations with the power of dreams, science, and humanity.
