France, May 20: In a horrifying case that has shaken France, Philippe Schneider, 69, a former butcher turned pizza chef, stands trial for allegedly murdering Georges Meichler, 57, and desecrating his body by dismembering and cooking parts of it.
Meichler, who lived alone in a remote stone house in Brasc, southern France, was reported missing after neighbours noticed his absence and his daughter received a suspicious text claiming he had left for Brittany. Police traced Meichler’s van, driven by Schneider and his partner Nathalie Caboubassy, 45, near Camarès, 24 miles away. Inside the van, officers discovered blood and bags containing human remains.

During questioning, Schneider confessed to tying and gagging Meichler during a robbery that went wrong, leading to suffocation. He admitted to dismembering the body with a butcher’s knife, burning the head, hands, and feet, and scattering the remains across the region. Shockingly, he also revealed cooking parts of the body with vegetables, claiming it was part of a Nepalese ritual to mask the odor.
Adding to the chilling details, a 25-year-old gravedigger on trial for complicity testified that Schneider instructed him to cook the meat until it “fell off the bone” and to say it was “dog food” if questioned.
The grisly case continues to unfold as the trial progresses.
