Mumbai, May 19: Actor Rukhsar Rehman has revealed that she was the original choice for the lead role in Star Plus’ hit show Anupamaa, now famously played by Rupali Ganguly.
In an interview with Aaj Tak’s Saas Bahu Aur Betiyaan, Rukhsar said, “I received a call from Rajan Shahi’s office, but I was tied up with OTT projects and personal commitments. I asked for a few days, but destiny had other plans.”
Anupamaa, which began in 2020, is a remake of the Bengali show Sreemoyee and remains one of TV’s highest-rated shows. Produced by Rajan and Deepa Shahi, the show stars Rupali Ganguly, with several past cast members having exited over time.
Rukhsar, known for films like PK and URI, made her debut in 1992 and later returned with Sarkar. She has also appeared in shows like Kuch Toh Log Kahenge and web series like The Night Manager. Her daughter Aisha Rehman is also entering the industry.
