Shahjahanpur, May 18: In a disturbing incident reported from Tilhar town in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district, the body of a 32-year-old woman was found stuffed inside a large suitcase at her home, police said on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Savita, wife of Ashok Kumar. While her husband claimed that she died by suicide, police said the act of hiding the body raised serious suspicions.

According to Superintendent of Police Rajesh Dwivedi, initial reports suggest that Savita may have hanged herself using a scarf. Her husband told police that he placed her body in the suitcase out of fear of being blamed for her death.

“The couple’s children also supported the father’s version,” SP Dwivedi said. However, he added, “the very act of hiding the body in a suitcase has raised doubts. A proper investigation is underway.”

Police were alerted by Savita’s brother-in-law, who claimed she had taken her own life. When officers reached the house, they found her body hidden in a suitcase, showing visible marks on the neck, though there were no signs of decomposition.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. Meanwhile, police are continuing with their investigation and have assured that legal action will be taken against anyone found responsible.
