Chennai, May 18: Actress Rashmika Mandanna stepped in to soothe fans on Saturday night as social media erupted with demands for updates on her upcoming film The Girlfriend. With the hashtag #ReleaseTheGirlfriend trending on X (formerly Twitter), fans expressed frustration over the lack of news surrounding the highly anticipated film.
As the pressure mounted, director Rahul Ravindran addressed the frenzy. Quoting a tweet highlighting the trending hashtag, he responded with reassurance: “Guys… there will be updates soon. Praamise. Please be a little patient.”
Sensing the growing impatience among her loyal followers, Rashmika took to X to offer both comfort and insight into the film’s progress. “Hi my lovelies. I know we’ve been making you wait and your trend really is something else... but trust me @23_rahulr is really working on it to give you the best output,” she wrote.

She continued, “It’s one of the most special kinds of films. It’s a film where we speak about things we generally don’t talk much about. It’s a pure characters-driven film and that’s the beauty of it. We promise you we want to give you the best and it’ll be worth your while. But because of today... for all the love you’ve shown us, we’ll just speed up the process and deliver it to you soonest!”
Earlier, the makers had released a teaser audio track titled Reyi Lolothula on Rashmika’s birthday, offering fans a glimpse into the film’s musical soul. The track, featuring vocals by Hesham Abdul Wahab, Chinmayi Sripada, and Vijay Deverakonda, includes lyrics by Rakendu Mouli and a poetic verse penned by director Rahul Ravindran himself.
Presented by noted producer Allu Aravind, The Girlfriend stars Rashmika Mandanna in the lead alongside Dheekshith Shetty. The film is both written and directed by Rahul Ravindran, with music composed by Hesham Abdul Wahab and cinematography by Krishnan Vasant.
As excitement builds and fan anticipation continues to surge, the team behind The Girlfriend has promised that new updates are on the horizon — and that the wait, they insist, will be well worth it.
