Air India crew celebrates former PM Deve Gowda’s birthday mid-air with heartwarming gesture

Bengaluru, May 17: In a touching and unexpected gesture, the Air India cabin crew on flight AI 2813, flying from Delhi to Bengaluru, surprised former prime minister H D Deve Gowda with an early birthday celebration mid-air on Friday.

The veteran statesman, who turns 92 on Sunday, May 18, was visibly moved as the Air India staff presented him with a cake and warm wishes while cruising at an altitude of 35,000 feet. The celebration was a mark of respect and admiration for the former Prime Minister, who remains an active member of the Rajya Sabha.



Air India, expressing its joy, shared a heartfelt message stating, “It is our great honour to celebrate the birthday of former Prime Minister Shri H D Deve Gowda at 35,000 feet in the sky. This moment is indeed a matter of immense pride for all of us at Air India.”

Responding to the affectionate gesture, Deve Gowda, known for his humility and simplicity, expressed his gratitude to the Air India crew. “I deeply appreciate the love and care shown by the airline staff. It was an emotional and memorable moment,” he said in a brief note.

Born on May 18, 1933, in Haradanahalli, Hassan district of Karnataka, Deve Gowda served as the 11th prime minister of India from 1996 to 1997. Even at the age of 91, he continues to engage actively in national politics, demonstrating unwavering commitment to public service.

The heartfelt in-flight celebration served as a reminder of the nation's continued respect for its senior leaders and the personal connections that transcend political boundaries.
