Vikrant Massey to lead revamped 'Dostana 2'; Kartik out, Janhvi replaced

Mumbai, May 16: After years of uncertainty and speculation, Dostana 2 is finally back on track with a refreshed star cast and renewed momentum. The much-delayed sequel, which once featured Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor, and newcomer Lakshya, had been shelved amid unexplained delays and behind-the-scenes issues. Now, the film is being revived under Karan Johar's Dharma Productions with Vikrant Massey stepping into the lead role.

Lakshya, who was initially introduced with the film, remains on board, while the female lead, originally played by Janhvi Kapoor, will now be portrayed by a fresh face yet to be finalised. According to sources cited by Pinkvilla, the film has undergone major script changes to reflect a "progressive" storyline that aligns with evolving audience expectations.

“Dostana 2 will feature Vikrant Massey with Lakshya and mark the launch pad of a debutant as the female lead,” a source revealed. “The makers aim to begin shooting in January 2026 and plan a theatrical release by the end of next year.”

The rebooted version is expected to retain the core elements of the franchise — music, comedy, romance, and drama — while taking a more inclusive and contemporary route. Talks are currently underway to finalise the director, with an official announcement expected soon.

The news comes on the heels of Vikrant Massey’s temporary hiatus from acting announced in December 2024, when he expressed a desire to prioritise family time. However, the 12th Fail star is now wrapping up the Sri Sri Ravi Shankar biopic and is reportedly also in talks for Don 3.

With a refreshed cast and a promise of progressive storytelling, Dostana 2 is once again a film to watch out for.
