Mangaluru, May 12: In a continued effort to enforce road safety and uphold Supreme Court guidelines, Mangaluru City Police have launched a special drive against vehicles using tinted glasses and black film.
The traffic police, under the jurisdiction of the City Police Commissionerate, have set up multiple checkpoints to inspect vehicles and verify their documentation.
As part of this enforcement operation, traffic officials have been identifying and taking action against vehicles operating with black film (sun film) or tinted windows. Between May 2 and 11, police registered cases against 504 vehicles, collecting fines amounting to Rs 2,53,000.
During the inspection, the illegally applied tinted glass and black film stickers were removed on the spot, and drivers were educated about the relevant rules and safety concerns. Officials confirmed that this special enforcement campaign will continue in the days ahead.
The police department has reminded the public that the use of tinted glass beyond the legally permitted limit is a violation of Supreme Court orders and poses a potential threat to public safety.

As per the Supreme Court ruling, authorities are authorised to take action against vehicles fitted with tinted glasses or black films exceeding the permissible limit, and such materials must be removed.

No form of black film (sun film) or any other material is permitted to be applied to vehicle windowpanes.

Citizens are urged to voluntarily remove any such films or tints from their vehicles and cooperate with law enforcement.

Violations will be dealt with under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, with an emphasis on ensuring safety and transparency.
