New Delhi, May 9: As military tensions surged following Pakistan’s failed aerial offensive, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar launched a series of diplomatic outreach efforts late Thursday night, engaging with top officials from the United States, Italy, and the European Union to brief them on India’s firm yet measured stance against cross-border terrorism.

During his call with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, EAM Jaishankar underscored India’s "targeted and measured" response, affirming that the country would "firmly counter any attempts at escalation." He extended his appreciation to Washington for its consistent support in combating terrorism.

“Underlined India's targeted and measured response to cross-border terrorism. Will firmly counter any attempts at escalation,” Jaishankar posted on X.

In a statement, the US State Department reaffirmed its commitment to stand with India in the fight against terror. Secretary Rubio expressed deep condolences for the recent terror attack in Pahalgam and stressed the importance of immediate de-escalation. He also encouraged direct dialogue between New Delhi and Islamabad to defuse tensions.

Amid heightened alertness along the western borders, EAM Jaishankar also spoke with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani.

“Discussed India’s targeted and measured response to firmly counter terrorism. Any escalation will see a strong response,” Jaishankar reiterated in a separate post.

Continuing his diplomatic engagements, Jaishankar spoke with Kaja Kallas, Vice-President of the European Commission. He briefed her on the developments following Pakistan’s missile and drone aggression, emphasising India’s restraint and resolve.

“Discussed ongoing developments with EU High Representative/Vice President Kaja Kallas. India has been measured in its actions. However, any escalation will get a firm response,” he wrote.

The external affairs minister’s proactive outreach comes at a time when the international community is closely watching the rapidly evolving India-Pakistan situation. With Jaishankar’s firm diplomatic push, New Delhi has signaled both its resolve and readiness for dialogue — but not at the cost of national security.
