New Delhi, May 7: In the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, a coordinated tri-service strike on nine key terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), the Union Government has called for an all-party meeting on Thursday, May 8, at 11 am to brief political leaders on the operation.

Union minister Kiren Rijiju took to social media platform X to make the announcement, stating that the meeting will take place in Committee Room G-074 at the Parliament Library Building in New Delhi.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan to formally brief her about the strategic operation.

The strikes, described as swift and surgical, were executed between 1.05 am and 1.30 am on Wednesday, lasting just 25 minutes. The Indian Armed Forces launched 24 missiles targeting high-value terrorist sites, including Lashkar-e-Taiba’s headquarters in Muridke and major training facilities in Bahawalpur areas long linked with extremist activities.

The Centre clarified that the action was a proportionate and focused response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 civilian lives, including that of a Nepali national. The government stated that no Pakistani military facilities were targeted, highlighting India’s restraint and precise targeting of terror infrastructure.

“Operation Sindoor was not escalatory. It was a measured act aimed solely at neutralising terror threats,” said Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri. He reaffirmed that efforts were made to avoid civilian casualties and prevent wider conflict.

In a firm message to Islamabad, Misri added, “This government has kept its promise those responsible will be held accountable. Pakistan must stop shielding terror networks operating from its soil.”

Political leaders across the spectrum extended their support to the armed forces. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi hailed the military’s courage, posting, “Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge wrote, “India has an unflinching national policy against terrorism from Pakistan and PoK. We salute the courage of our forces.” He added that the Congress party has stood firmly with the government since the Pahalgam attack and called for national unity.

“National interest is supreme for us. Our leaders have shown this path in the past,” Kharge stated.
