Mumbai, May 7: Marking World Athletics Day with sporty enthusiasm, actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani opened up about his passion for pickleball, a fast-growing sport that he says keeps him physically fit and mentally sharp amid a hectic lifestyle.
The Youngistaan actor, who has long advocated for an active lifestyle, said pickleball has become his go-to choice for a fun, accessible, and effective fitness routine. “Staying active is non-negotiable for me,” said Jackky. “Besides gym and yoga, I always make time for sports. I played tennis in school and college, and now pickleball feels like its compact, energetic cousin. It’s fun, it’s addictive, and anyone can play it.”
Pickleball — a hybrid of tennis, badminton, and table tennis — has been gaining popularity worldwide, praised for its accessibility and cardiovascular benefits. Jackky pointed out that the sport’s non-intimidating nature and social aspect make it perfect for people of all age groups. “It tones muscles, improves balance and coordination, burns calories, and is very good for agility. More importantly, it fits into even the busiest schedules.”
Bhagnani, who is juggling film productions and global travel, finds in pickleball a refreshing escape. He revealed that his love for the sport has gone a step further — he and wife, actress Rakul Preet Singh, now co-own the Hyderabad Superstars in the World Pickleball League. “Investing in the sport is our way of building awareness and encouraging others to embrace movement in their daily lives,” he said.
As the world marks World Athletics Day — observed annually on May 7 to promote athleticism, especially among youth — Jackky’s words serve as a reminder that sports and fitness are for everyone. “Athleticism is not just for athletes. It’s for anyone who wants to live a healthy, happy, and balanced life,” he concluded.
