Srinagar, May 6: All India Majlis-e-Ittahadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi strongly condemned the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 people dead, calling it a cowardly act that has severely impacted the region's vital tourism industry.

Speaking to the media after his arrival in Srinagar, Owaisi stated, "It was a cowardly attack. We have seen how terrorists from Pakistan killed 26 tourists. The most disheartening part is how they separated women and children from the group and asked the men about their religion, killing those who could not recite the Kalma. This has also had a devastating effect on Kashmir’s tourism industry."

The AIMIM President expressed concern over the broader economic impact, emphasizing that the attack not only posed a security challenge but also created a significant economic crisis for those reliant on tourism for their livelihoods. "The Pahalgam attack has deeply hurt the tourism industry in Kashmir. It is not just a security issue, but also an economic one," he added.

Owaisi also spoke out about the recent death of a youth in Kulgam district, calling for a transparent and time-bound investigation. "There must be a thorough inquiry into the death of the Kulgam youth to ensure accountability," he urged, seeking justice for the incident.

On the issue of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), Owaisi noted that the Centre has put the treaty on hold. He mentioned the complications related to the neutral expert and the court of arbitration, adding, "Let’s see what happens."

Earlier, Owaisi had visited Kashmir in April for a private event, attending a marriage ceremony in Srinagar. The gathering, which was modest, drew attention due to the presence of senior AIMIM leader Imitiaz Jaleel and the Mirwaiz of Kashmir, Miwaiz Umar Farooq, who solemnized the Nikah. Despite the private nature of the event, photos from the ceremony gained significant attention on social media.
