Mangaluru: Free health check-up camp held at Holy Cross Church, Cordel

Mangaluru, May 5: A unique and free health check-up camp was organized by Bethany Jeevandhara in collaboration with the Health Commission, Women Commission, Family Commission, and Bethany Lay Association on May 4, 2025, at Holy Cross Church, Cordel.

The initiative aimed to provide basic medical services to the local community, raise health awareness, and offer early diagnosis of common ailments.

Fifteen specialized doctors, along with their support staff from Father Muller Charitable Medical Hospital, participated in the camp.

Services offered included:

• General health check-up (blood pressure and blood sugar)
• Ophthalmology (eye care)
• Pediatrics
• Dermatology
• Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBG)
• ECG
• Orthopedics

The camp was held under the leadership of Dr Kelvin Pais, liaison officer at Father Muller’s, and Dr Caroline Pais, camp coordinator. The event was blessed by Fr Clifford Fernandes, parish priest, and inaugurated in the presence of parish vice president Ruth Castelino, 21 Commission in-charge Dolphy D’Souza, other commission leaders, and volunteers. Sr Reena Juliet, director of the Jeevandhara Centre, was also present.

Over 300 individuals availed the services at the camp. Many were diagnosed with minor ailments and provided with necessary medications. Specialists in general medicine, pediatrics, and ophthalmology ensured comprehensive care.

The community response was overwhelmingly positive. Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the free services and requested that similar camps be organized regularly. The event marked a significant step toward improving healthcare access in the region and successfully fulfilled its objectives through collective support.
