Mumbai, May 5: Actress Lakshmi Manchu has expressed her deep admiration for sarees, calling them the epitome of beauty and femininity. Speaking at a special event in Mumbai dedicated to the timeless elegance of Kanchipuram and Kota sarees, she highlighted the rich craftsmanship and cultural significance of these traditional weaves.

The event celebrated India’s textile legacy, with handwoven sarees taking center stage. As a strong supporter of the "Make in India" campaign, Lakshmi emphasized the importance of sourcing authentic materials. “In Mumbai, even the so-called real zari isn’t always genuine. I made it a point to work with master artisans and source authentic zari. I even hand-drew Kalamkari designs that, to my surprise, were new to many of the weavers themselves,” she shared.

Lakshmi, known for her unconventional fashion choices, proudly embraces Indian attire in her everyday life. “I often walk into coffee shops draped in a saree because, to me, it’s the most graceful and empowering garment a woman can wear. It’s time we take pride in our traditions, especially in fabrics the world already admires.”

Daughter of veteran actor Mohan Babu, Lakshmi began her career in the U.S. with roles in popular TV shows like Las Vegas and Desperate Housewives. She also directed and starred in the short film Perfect Lives, which was screened at the La Femme Film Festival in Los Angeles. In 2016, she made her stage debut as Miss Trunchbull in the theatre adaptation of Matilda.

Her most recent film appearance was in the 2022 Malayalam action thriller Monster, alongside Mohanlal and a star-studded ensemble cast.
