Nizamabad, Mar 14: Tension gripped Nizamabad town following the custodial death of a man, with his family alleging police torture.
Sampath Kumar, who was in the custody of cybercrime police, passed away on Thursday night. As the news spread, his relatives and friends staged a protest outside the government hospital, demanding justice. The police tightened security to prevent any untoward incident.

Sampath, an employee at Srirama International Manpower, was arrested recently along with another person after complaints of cheating were lodged by two Gulf-bound individuals. Though initially sent to judicial custody, a court later remanded him to police custody for further questioning.
Police took Sampath to Jagitial town for money recovery related to the case and brought him back to the cybercrime police station the same night. He reportedly complained of pain in his left hand and was rushed to the government hospital, where he collapsed and died during treatment.
Assistant commissioner of Police Raja Venkat Reddy stated that Sampath was stable when taken to the hospital but collapsed in the presence of doctors. The body has been sent for autopsy by a panel of three doctors.
Amid allegations of custodial torture, police registered a case, and a judicial magistrate will investigate the incident.
