Mangaluru, Dec 4: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a protest in all the district centers of the Karnataka state against the Karnataka state government and the central government, which failed to provide crop loss compensation to the farmers affected by severe drought.
AAP workers protested under the leadership of Vishukumar. Addressing the activists, he said, "The state government should immediately transfer the crop loss compensation to the farmers' account without giving any reason, otherwise there will be fierce struggle in the coming days. Out of the total 236 taluks of Karnataka, 223 taluks have been declared as drought prone areas. Most of the states are affected by drought. Out of these, 196 taluks have been classified as severe drought prone, he said. More than 48 lac hectares of agricultural and horticultural crops have been damaged. The total value of damaged crops is Rs 35162.05 crore. A 10-member study team from Center A has failed to convince us that what we are experiencing is a green drought. 5,495 crore special grant recommended by the 15th finance commission for Karnataka has been rejected by Nirmala Sitaraman, who is the finance minister elected to the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka. All this will be brought to the attention of the chief minister of the state. They should act on this very soon. Otherwise, the struggle will be intensified in the coming days,”
