Ayodhya seers seek amendment to POCSO Act

Lucknow, May 30 (IANS): Seers in Ayodhya are now demanding an amendment to the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act on the grounds that it was being widely misused.

Mahant Kamal Nayan Das, successor to Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, who is chairman of Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, said Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh was being harassed because of the POCSO Act.

The national capital has witnessed ongoing protests by the country's top grapplers against Brij Bhushan, who has been accused of sexual misconduct.

"Innocent people are being harassed by misusing the POCSO Act. Fake allegations are being levelled against them, especially seers, mahants and politicians," said Kamal Nayan Das.

"Seers will demand amendment of POCSO Act at a public awareness rally at Ayodhya's Ram Katha Park on June 5. Former judges and legal experts will also take part in the rally."

Brij Bhushan is holding a Jan Chetna Rally in Ayodhya on June 5 in which seers will take part.

The rally is being termed as a show of strength by the BJP MP.

Mahant Gaurishankar Das of Hanuman Garhi lauded efforts by Brij Bhushan to take wrestling to new heights.

He also dubbed as all the allegations of sexual harassment against the BJP MP as fake.

    These seers have no business to poke their nose. Mahant Kamal Nayan Das along with Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh should be charged under POSCO Act and locked up for life!

    This is really getting too worse. Wrestlers, that too decorated Wrestlers, who bought olympic medals, made the country, are accusing WFI chief of sexual offenses. Since he is connected to BJP no action gets taken. If anyone else, media and actions could have been very different. The WFI chief has challenged Narco test and asked even the athletes to go through same. They even accepted and asked the narco test to be shown live for both sides. That WFI cheif now trying taking the seers help, to change the law itself. What a shame.

    The statement of the Ayodhya seers quoted herein: "Innocent people are being harassed by misusing the POCSO Act. Fake allegations are being levelled against them, especially seers, mahants and politicians," said Kamal Nayan Das - is RIDICULOUS & shouldn't be considered on the grounds stated by them. They deserve life imprisonment. However, I am for amendment of the POCSO Act against those youth who have married a minor girl below 18 yrs out of genuine LOVE not knowing the law or its consequences. The Law should be such that they are placed not in regular prisons (especially the adult among the two) but in separate rehabilitation homes where they can be given an opportunity for counselling and furthering their education. Most of these youngsters elope with a girl to a place of worship and get married without informing their parents, placing them with hardcore criminals is very cruel even though the offence falls under the IPC section for kidnapping or Rape.

    MY DEAR FRIENDS, THE POCSO ACT IS BEING INTRODUCED FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDDREN AND NOW PEOPLE ARE WORRIED AND AFRAID OF THIS ACT. SO MANY CHILD ABUSE AND RAPES ARE GOING ON CONTINEOUSLY AND IT IS EVERY CITIZEN OF INDIA HAS TO HELP EACH OTHER TO SAVE THE FEMALES. IN CASE IF THIS ACT GET LIBERALIZED, THAN THERE WILL NOT BE ANY TYPE OF FEAR IN THE THE MALES. EVEN THE PRESENT EXISTENCE OF THE POCSO ACT, THERE ARE SEVERAL RAPES , ABUSES , HARRASMENT OF THE FEMALE IS GOING ON IN OUR INDIA. HENCE IT IS BETTER TO THINK ABOUT THIS BEFORE ANYONE MAKES THIS ACT EASY

    When it comes to Sithadevi, it was right from Srirama's side to subject her to agnipareekshe. When it comes to males, the same Ayodhya seers seek amendments in the law!!! Shame on the so called seers. Are they anticipating some such cases on them too??
