Chinese Attempt to Steal US High Tech on the Rise

From Lalit K Jha

Washington, June 2 (PTI) Over the past few years there has been an increasing incidence of the Chinese attempting to smuggle high-tech related to defence and space from the US, official US figures show.

This is reflected in the number of arrests made by federal agents and ongoing court cases going on in this regard in the United States, said Neil MacBride, US Attorney, after two Chinese pleaded guilty in a Virginia court to conspiracy to smuggle radiation-hardened microchips to China.

This is not the only one, MacBride said as he listed out some of the high profile such cases in the recent past.

On January 21, 2011, Glenn Duffie Shriver was sentenced to 48 months in prison after pleading guilty to participating in a conspiracy to provide national defence information to intelligence officers of China.
