Bengaluru, Nov 26: Welcoming the swift action taken by the Election Commission of India (ECI) of ordering suspension of two officers in the VotersDataTheft scam and redoing of the voter data collection afresh in three assembly constituencies of Bengaluru, AICC General Secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala has demanded that the ECI must lodge FIRs against the alleged kingpins of Chief Minister and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath for the alleged ‘’voter fraud and denial of right to vote to Kannadigas.’’

The Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who is also the in-charge minister for the city, and BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath, the electoral officer, must be proceeded against for maintaining the sanctity of democracy, Surjewala said and contended that ECI cannot confine its inquiry/action to just three assembly segments of Bengaluru.

Surjewala, who is the in-charge of Congress party in the State, has in a series of tweets, FIRs must be lodged by ECI against the Chief Minister and BBMP Chief Commissioner to ensure a ``fair inquiry’’ as they have authorised the illegal collection of voter data by a private non-governmental organisation Chilume Trust.

``Chilume Trust and Chilume Enterprises were authorised by Bommai Government to collect voter data for all 28 assemblies of Bengaluru. They have illegally collected Voter personal data and uploaded it to a private app,’’ Congress leader said and demanded that a fair inquiry must cover all the 28 assembly constituencies of Bengaluru.

The AICC General Secretary alleged that Chilume hired nearly 10,000 employees and subcontracted the work of data collection to multiple agencies, which was illegally stolen. ``Crores of rupees were pumped in. Where did the money come from? Who funded this illegal operation?’’ he asked.

``ECI has to enquire the brazen hijacking of democracy,’’ he said claiming that ``New revelations disclose that Chilume’s fat cat, Ravikumar had also received payments from Government of India in sundry accounts of innocent villagers and withdrawn the same indicating a huge money laundering racket and duping the exchequer.’’ Surjewala said ECI should investigate and ask ED/IT to investigate.

``All the above is imperative for retaining the very sanctity of democracy, for the Bommai Government’s sinister plan to corrupt the electoral process has been caught red handed. The onus is on ECI and each one of us to defend democracy and every Kannadiga’s “right to vote,’’ he said.
