Cecilia Saldanha (86), wife of the late Vincent Saldanha, daughter of the late Sabastian and the late Lucy Menezes, sister of Alice , Margaret, Vincent, Rozario and Charles, mother of Tresa, mother in law of Jerome Sequeira, grandmother of Ann, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Mortal remains will be brought to the residence for viewing from 2.00 pm to 4.30 pm, Flat-1110, Marian Park, Kadri, Mangalore on Tuesday, April 14, followed by Mass at 5.00 pm in St Sebastian Church Bendur, Mangalore.

I write this with a heavy heart, but also with deep gratitude for having had my grandmother in my life. I learned a great deal from her about kindness, patience, grit, empathy, compassion and perseverance. She was kind, intelligent, witty, and full of humor. More than anything, she always put her family first. Her love showed in everything she did—in the way she cared for us, listened to us, and made us feel safe and valued. She didnt just love and care for us, she also had a very deep appreciation of nature. Plants and flowers and animals brought her comfort. I remember how beautiful her flowering plants looked at all times of the year. She put in just as much of dedication to loving her craft of planting as she did towards us. We shared our love of cats and spent hours petting them and talking aout them while we visited family. Some of my most cherished memories are from summers in Mangalore. I remember our long conversations, the laughter we shared, and the simple joys—like enjoying a plate of sheera at restaurants or eating her delicious home-cooked meals that no one else could ever replicate. We would talk about her childhood, play ludo, and spend hours just being together. Those moments meant everything. She had a sharp wit and a way with words that could light up any room. Even today, when I hear my daughter Emma, I sometimes see glimpses of her in that same personality. It’s comforting to know that a part of her lives on. Losing her leaves an ache that words cannot fully express. But alongside that pain is the love she gave so freely and the memories I will carry forever. I hold onto the hope that one day I will see her again—to hug her, to sit beside her, and to rest my head in her lap just like I did as a child. Thank you, my sweet and wonderful Sunny. You will always be loved and never forgotten.
