Fr Melwin J Pinto SJ (62), Pro-Chancellor of St Aloysius University, Rector of St Aloysius Institutions, Vice President of Mangalore Jesuit Educational Society (MJES), passed away on April 10, 2026.

Funeral Mass will be at Divine Mercy Church, Fatima Retreat House, Mangalore at 3.30 pm on Monday, April 13, followed by burial in the Jesuit Cemetery, Mangalore.

Public viewing :

St Aloysius College, Mangalore - 10.00 am to 2.00 pm

Divine Mercy Church, Mangalore - 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm

I am deeply shocked and heartbroken to hear about the passing of my childhood friend, Fr. Melwin. It is hard to believe that he is no more. Melwin, my brother Lesley, and I grew up together, sharing some of the most beautiful and carefree days of our lives. We went to church together, played cricket together, and spent countless hours just being kids, building memories that will now stay with me forever. I still vividly remember one day, on our way to church, when Melwin announced that he was joining the seminary. With the innocence of childhood, both Lesley and I immediately said that if he became a priest, we too would follow. Years later, he reminded us of that moment. By then, both of us were already married. I laughed and told him, “You became a Father… and we too became fathers.” He would fondly recall this story in his sermons and share it with many, spreading smiles wherever he went. That was Melwin, full of warmth, humor, faith, and a deep sense of purpose. Today, I feel an immense void. I am shocked to my core and struggling to come to terms with this loss. My heartfelt condolences to his siblings Stephen, Ivy, Vivi, Vinaya, all the priests, students, and his near and dear ones. May God give you strength in this difficult time. Heartfelt condolences Fr Melwin's brother Steven and his siblings and to the Jesuits community of St. Aloysius Institutions on the sad and untimely demise of Fr. Melwin. The Jesuits community has lost a very able Priest who sincerely worked for the upliftment of poor students. May God bless him with eternal Peace in the hm in the Heavenly Jerusalem.and may his Soul Rest in Peace..
