Mortal remains will be brought to St Vincent Ferrer Church, Valencia, Mangalore on Thursday, December 14 at 4.00 pm for public homage, followed by Mass at 5:00 pm.

As a devoted mother, she not only managed the household but also nurtured her children with boundless affection and joy. Through life's highs and lows, she held the family close, fostering togetherness even in the toughest moments, like losing her husband when she was young. Her "house concerts" brought melodies to our hearts, those Silva Family recitals still ringing in our ears. Her energy in community events and parish gatherings was infectious. Despite her declining health, her resilience, sharp memory, and mental strength were remarkable, guiding her through every challenge. Our moments with her during visits to Mangalore were precious. Her stories and memories painted vivid pictures of her life, keeping us engaged for hours. I had hoped to see her again this time. In late sixties as a young drama lover, I was in total awe of Evelyn bai’s acting, so real, spontaneous and disciplined. As a prompter I had watched her from near, rehearsing, then coming alive on stage. I can confidently say she was the greatest actor to grace the Konkani stage in Mangalore. After many years, in the early eighties we were co actors in a play 'Jesu Nazarene'. I was acting as Judas. During every rehearsal and show she watched from the wings, appreciated, congratulated and blessed me. That was the best ever compliment I received from any fellow actor. Thank you dear Evelyn teacher. May God rest your noble soul in eternal peace and give your children and family members strength to bear this irreparable loss.

Kind, humane, exemplary and inspiring - these are the thoughts that leap to my mind about Mrs Evelyn D'Silva, or Evelyn Teacher, as generations of students called her. She was my class teacher when I was in the fourth standard at St Aloysius. She would step out of the text books and encourage students to excel in poetry, writing, public speaking and dramatics.
