Sr. M. Gilda A.C (nee Hilda Cecilia D’Souza ), aged 76 years , a member of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation, Karnataka Province  passed away at Mary Immaculate Convent, Wilson Garden, Bangalore on 30th of August 2011 at 6.45 am. 


Her mortal remains will be brought to Lourdes Convent, Jayanagar, Bangalore on Saturday, September 3rd 2011 at 2.30 pm and the funeral Mass will be at 3pm at Lourdes Convent Chapel, Carmel School Compound, Jayanagar.  May Her Soul rest in peace.


Born on 16.05.1935 to late Joseph George D’Souza and late Marceline Clara Pinto of Urwa, Mangalore, she joined the Apostolic Carmel, Mangalore on 15.06.1957. She made her first vows on 05.01.1960. Hers was a family of strong religious background with her two brothers Fr. Richard D’Souza (Bombay) and Fr. Freddie D’Souza (Kolkotta) serving the Church. She has served in various capacities as teacher, Headmistress and Superior. She was Headmistress at Carmel Girls High School Modankap, Carmel Girls High Kemmannu, and Superintendent at St. Ann’s T.T.I., Mangalore. She was Superior at Carmel Convent Gangolli, St. Joseph’s Kundapura, Carmel Convent Haliyal and St. Joseph’s Convent Mysore. She had also served at Stella Maris Kotekar and St. Agnes Convent, Bendore.

Sr. Gilda A.C. was a person of prayer, who spent much time before the Blessed Sacrament interceding for the needs of the Church and the Congregation. She was a lover of Mother Mary and the Rosary was her strong weapon at all times, even at the hour of her death.  She was a good reader and a regular writer to the Congregation Bulletin – Flos Carmeli.  Her love for the poor was very remarkable and many of her students, especially from our Children’s Home fondly remember her for her kindness and motherly care.
