Benedict Norohna (91), retired Section Officer Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, expired on Friday, July 1, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Philomena Noronha, and five children including two sons – Philip and John – and three daughters – Louisa, Joyce and Jacintha, and seven grandchildren. He is the father-in-law of Jerome D’Souza, leading advocate and legal advisor to FKCA, Bangalore and Konkani Catholic Welfare Association, Rajajinagar, Bangalore.

Benedict Norohna born at Kumta in Uttara Kannada district, on October 8, 1920, had his technical education in Mysore. He joined the prestigious Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and retired as Section Officer after 35 years of service and settled down at Malleswaram in Bangalore.

The funeral service will be held at Christ the King Church, Malleswaram, Yeshwanthpur, with a mass on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 3 pm and the burial will be held St Patrick’s Cemetary, Hosur Road, Bangalore.

Dear Aunty, Louisa, Joyce, Jacintha, Johnny, Philip,

I was saddened to hear about Uncle's demise and send our most heartfelt condolences and sympathies on Daddy's passing away. I will always remember his warmth, company and long association with our family. I was delighted to meet him last year after a long time, and he seemed very hale and hearthy. We will keep him in our prayers and know that he is in the company of the angels.

Uncle Noronha and his family were known to me since 1979 after I stepped into Bangalore. Uncle,was soft and gentle in his words and deeds.I have not come across a person so simple. He had a special quality. My heartfelt condolences to Aunty,Jerome, Louisa, Philip, John and their family.

He was one of the most influential persons in my life.
