Sunny A D'Souza (73), Konkani playwright and director passed away here in Mangalore after a prolonged illness. He was living at Shirva for the past few months at an old age house.

Born in Bendore, Mangalore he lived in Mumbai for almost 45 years and was the sub-editor of Poinnari Konkani Weekly.

He was a regular contributor to Konkani magazines like Kanas, Vishal Konkan, Zag-Mag and Kutam.

Nach Konknya Nach, Bhangar Piklam, Rogtachim Zalim Dukham, Magon Ghetullo Khuris, Hasanatullo to Piso, Ghott Dhor Soddinaka are some of his plays.

Funeral mass will be held at St Antony's Ashram at 9:00 am on Thursday, December 23, 2010 and thereafter the funeral cortege will leave for Cascia Church cemetary for burial.

Not only did I have the opportunity to know Uncle Sunny, but also had the opportunity to work with him in one of his most memorable stage plays RAKTACHIM ZALIM DUKHAM. Besides being talented, he was a very beautiful human being. He will be missed! My condolences go out to his brother Ronnie and the rest of his family.

We are extremely sorry to hear of Uncle Sunny's demise (from fellow passengers returning from Madhurai to Bombay). He was a gem of a person. Undoubtedly a mammoth loss to yourselves, Konkani language and his friends too.

Deeply saddened at the loss of another great Konkani hero who contributed to the rich culture and heritage of Konkani through his drama's and writings. He will be dearly missed. I had the privilege of attending some of his finest works while in Bombay.
May eternal rest grant unto him and perpetual light shine on him an his soul rest in peace.

We know Sunnyiab since last 20 years. He was a great personality, always extends his hands towards the needy. When we met him in August, we saw that he had created a friendly & family atmosphere with his fellow members in the Ashram, eventhough he was far from his loved ones.
