Sister Mary Hiltrude nee Hilda Carvalho (76), daughter of the late Ligoury and Stephanie Carvalho, Barkur, sister of Leena Fernandes, Thottam, the late Peter Carvalho, the late Joseph Carvalho, Barkur, Mary Lewis, Kallianpur, Elcy D'Souza and the late Rita Carvalho, Barkur, passed away on Sunday July 6, 2008 at Sacred Heart Convent, Jamshedpur.
Funeral at Sacred Heart Convent, Jamshedpur on Monday July 7 at 3.00 pm.
Sister Mary Hiltrude, nee Hilda Carvalho was the second daughter of the late Staphene and the late Ligory Carvalho. She was born on May 10, 1932 and was brought up in the love and fear of God. She had her primary education at Barkur Board School. She completed her SSLC at St Cicely's High School, Udupi and then teachers training at St Ann's Convent, Mangalore. She later taught at the Hangarkatte Board School for six months and three and half years at National High School, Barkur.
She joined the Apostolic Carmel on June 15, 1954. After her profession in 1957, she worked at St Maria Goretti Convent for a year and half. From there she was sent as a missionary to North India. She worked in U.P, Bihar, West Bengal and Jharkhand. She also worked for 3 years at Jayanagar, Bangalore and 5 years at Mary Hill, Mangalore. She was working at Lohordaga, Jharkhand in a diocesan school. She was ailing from cancer for the last couple of years.
