In Loving Memory of “Porbul”… Uncle completed his 68-year earthly journey after bravely battling diabetes and renal problems for the last couple of years. The most jovial among his siblings, he was the one who never forgot anyone’s birthday, anniversary or special occasion. Perhaps he was the only one in our family who kept in touch with each and every relative — near or far, close or distant. He was, in many ways, the thread that kept our extended family connected. From walking to school in Kuriyal, to cycling to Benjanapadav and SVS College, to riding a two-wheeler in Bengaluru and driving a four-wheeler in Bahrain during his Gulf Air days, and, in the last five years, taking auto-rickshaw or cab rides from his home in Bannerghatta to St John’s Medical College Hospital as early as 4 am every alternate day — you never seemed tired. Many would have given up long ago, but you never complained about the pain, the inconvenience or the hardships you had to endure. Your quiet strength and determination were truly remarkable. You also took extraordinary care of your beloved wife, Stella Auntie, during her final days. The love, devotion and dignity with which you stood by her will always remain a beautiful testament to the bond you shared. Despite your inability to travel, you made it a point to attend most of the court hearings when the insurance company wronged you. You stood up for what was right until the very end. In the last couple of years, when you needed care and support yourself, Royston, Meghna and Rensilla stood by you and took special care of you through your difficult days. May God give them the strength and courage to cope with this profound loss and carry forward the beautiful memories you have left behind. Uncle, I will miss you dearly, “Porbule.” I will miss your laughter, your warmth, your calls and, above all, the way you kept our family connected. May God grant you eternal rest and welcome you into His loving presence. May your soul rest in peace. Ronald Anil Fernandes
